Malaysia's Business Performance to Increase

Malaysia’s business performance is likely to continue to grow at a steady pace during 2018, during what is believed to be a continuation of the positive evolution during the final months of the previous year. A Report published by MIDF Research indicates that the GDP growth for the first quarter of 2018 is likely to rise above 5.5 percent, especially if the business confidence index continues to maintain a two-digit value.
The researchers also highlighted the fact that GDP growth in the final quarter of 2017 exceeded the expectations and expanded by 5.9 percent when compared to the same period in 2016. This is a 5.8 percent increase compared to the market expectations. Private consumption is believed to have been the main pillar for this positive GDP growth at the end of 2017.
The Report also highlighted the fact that Malaysia’s exports increased by 18.9 percent in 2017 and the final trade surplus grew by 10.3 percent, to a value of 97.25 billion RMN. Imports also rose by 7.9 percent. The values reported are on a year-on-year basis and were calculated for the final quarter of 2017. The Report concludes that Malaysia’s trade performance for 2018 will remain positive and will continue to expand.
